November is Diabetes Awareness Month

Celebrating 100 Years of Insulin!

2021 marks the anniversary of this monumental discovery that has undeniably changed the lives for so many people!

Since the discovery of insulin, led by Canadians Fredrick Banting and Charles Herbert Best, James Bertram Collip and Britain’s John J.R. Macleod, insulin injections are still the most common and effective treatment for Type 1 diabetes.   Unfortunately, even after 100 years, Diabetes Mellitus continues to be prevalent and is currently progressing in numbers.

Did you know that diabetes or prediabetes affects 1 in 3 Canadians and will also impact 1 in 2 young adults who will develop diabetes within their lifetimes?

Embrace a healthy lifestyle such as engaging in regular activity and consuming balanced meals to lower your risk for developing diabetes.

Middlesex Hospital Alliance offers a robust Diabetes Education Program that accepts self referrals in addition to physician based.  Please contact 519-246-5903  if you are interested in making an appointment.
