(Strathroy, ON) – In response to the increasing presence and transmission of respiratory viruses across the region, hospitals are once again implementing mask-wearing guidelines. In collaboration with our regional partners, on Oct 3, 2023, Middlesex Hospital Alliance will re-institute masking in all clinical areas pending further assessment of regional epidemiology.
Medical masks are an important tool to reduce the risk of infection transmission and protect vulnerable persons. As a high risk setting, measures in hospitals are in place to provide the highest level of safety for our patients. Masking as source control reduces outbreak risk and preserves hospital capacity.
Masking is one of several layers of protection used to keep patients safe. Vaccination, screening, and distancing continue to be important to protect against transmission of respiratory viruses. We encourage everyone who is able to obtain both the seasonal Influenza and updated COVID vaccines.
Do not visit the hospital if you are unwell with respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms. Our staff are happy to assist you with remote visits. When visiting, clean your hands, wear a mask, and follow infection prevention guidance provided by our staff.
