SMGH Auxiliary History
The SMGH Auxiliary was founded in 1914 when the hospital opened. At the time, members donated fruit, vegetables, preserves and eggs to the hospital’s kitchen. The big event each year was the July 1st “Tea” which the Auxiliary hosted on the front lawn of the hospital.
Over the years, Auxiliary members have supported patient care at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital through various fundraising activities and volunteer services.
The SMGH Auxiliary has made a fundraising pledge of raising $1 million in support of the hospital over the next 10 years – the single largest pledge they have ever committed to raising!
Currently the Auxiliary raises money for the hospital by operating the Java Hut Coffee Kiosk and the Hospital Gift Shop, plus many other popular fundraising activities.
The Java Hut coffee kiosk is staffed by over 200 Auxiliary volunteers. The hours are 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on weekdays; it is closed on the weekends. (CURRENTLY CLOSED)
The SMGH Gift Shop is managed and staffed by Auxiliary volunteers, the Gift Shop is located in the main corridor of the hospital. The shop is open from 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12 noon – 3 p.m. on weekends and holidays. (CURRENTLY CLOSED)
Four Counties Health Services Auxiliary
Having been part an important part of our health care organization for the past 40 years, the FCHS Auxiliary formed even before the sod was turned at the Four Counties site. The Auxiliary has been and continues to be a driving force within this organization – from furnishing the first heart monitor room in 1974 to the donation of funds for specialized medical equipment. Running the gift shop is one of the main roles of the Auxiliary. Other fundraising events like bazaars, tickets sales and foundation projects assist the hospital to provide quality health care.
