Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention is available for inpatients only. Service is provided to patients with neurological deficits, orthopaedic conditions, palliative diagnoses and people with conditions associated with aging. Primary focus is on cognitive assessment and discharge planning.

A doctor’s referral is needed to access this service.

NOTE:  This service is currently available on a very limited basis

Speech Language Pathology

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) are trained to assess, treat and support patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. SLP services are available on inpatient basis at both Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) and Four Counties Health Services (FCHS).

Outpatient SLP services are available at SMGH but on a limited basis with following criteria:

  1. Clients need to be over 18 years of age
  2. Client needs to reside or have doctor in MHA geographical area
  3. Referrals accepted only for swallowing or voice issues
  4. Doctor’s referral is needed to access services

Physiotherapy

This department offers rehabilitation services to people affected by injury, surgery, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, modalities including acupuncture, gym and conditioning programs, education and advice.  The department has particular strengths in orthopedics, geriatric rehabilitation, and the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. A doctor’s referral is required to access physiotherapy services and patients are prioritized for urgency. Physiotherapy services are available at both Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) and Four Counties Health Services (FCHS).

NOTE:  The outpatient physiotherapy service for SMGH is located at Unit #14, 51 Front St E, Strathroy ON N7G 1Y5 (Shops of Sydenham/Mall).

Students: The physiotherapy department accepts physiotherapy and occupational therapy students who are in training and completing their clinical requirements.
