MHA CEO Retires

On June 19, 2012, Michael Mazza announced to the Board of the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) his plans to retire from his position as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance, effective September 18, 2012.  The Alliance is a partnership of Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) and Four Counties Health Services (FCHS) in Newbury.

Prior to joining FCHS in 1999 as CEO, Mr. Mazza was the Executive Director of Centre Grey General Hospital in Markdale.  In 2003 he was instrumental in guiding FCHS and SMGH together to a stronger, more effective health care alliance, effectively becoming the Middlesex Hospital Alliance.

Mr. Mazza brought hospital vision, direction and leadership, always moving the MHA forward to be prepared for the future needs of the community.  He oversaw several major projects at the hospital, including the expansion of the new SMGH Emergency Ambulatory Care Project and the execution of the purchase of the new state of the art CT scanner.  Service excellence was a key priority for Mr. Mazza, recognized by the high accreditation ratings the MHA received during his tenure.  He continued to develop strategies to deliver quality health care to the community of not only the hospitals Core Services but also its two established Centres of Achievement – orthopaedics and diabetes education.  Underlying Michael Mazza’s strong hospital commitment was his genuine care for patients; always striving for the MHA to be the best place for patient-centred care.

The Board of the MHA sincerely recognizes and thanks Mr. Mazza for his 35 years of health care service and appreciates his 14 years of dedicated service to our two hospitals.  The MHA Board will immediately commence a search for a new CEO.
