(Strathroy, ON) – If you are visiting a patient at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH), you’ll notice that we are currently under construction.
Thanks to funding provided to SMGH as a result of a facility condition assessment sponsored by the Ministry of Health for improvements to the physical plant condition of hospitals, SMGH applied for and was approved for funding to assist in making improvements to the inpatient units on the first and second floors.
The ceilings on both floors are being removed in phases to accommodate the removal of sprayed fireproofing. At the same time, the Nurse Call System and computer devices required for the regional electronic patient record (HUGO) will be installed. “SMGH is very pleased to receive these funds to assist with the renovations. While we recognize the renovations are an inconvenience, our efforts to provide exemplary care will not be diminished in any way,” said Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO of MHA. “The new nurse call system as well as the computer devices being installed, both contribute to the provision of safe and high quality care for our patients” added Nancy Maltby, Chief Operating Officer.
The renovation project will be completed in phases with an anticipated completion date of November 1, 2013. Given the scope of the work, contractors have installed temporary lighting and the ceiling height has been reduced to facilitate work space. However, access to patient rooms will be maintained throughout the project.
