SMGH DI Renovation

(Strathroy, ON) – The diagnostic imaging department at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) is currently under construction.

When the area for the Breast Assessment Program was redesigned and renovated, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the SMGH Foundation, the decision was made to apply for funding through the 2018/19 Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) provided by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, to replace the current HVAC fan unit in the entire diagnostic imaging department.

This is an extremely intrusive project as all ductwork, ceilings and lighting is being replaced during the construction.  In order to accommodate this work, the project has been divided into 5 phases, each phase shutting down an area in the department for approximately 6 weeks.  Once completed, the DI department will have one unit serving this area, which meets current CSA standards as well as mitigating the legacy of poor air quality, temperature and humidity control in the diagnostic area.

“We are extremely pleased to have received the funding for this project through HIRF,” says Ryan Whitney, Manager of Facilities & Maintenance Services.  “Not only does this upgrade provide comfort in the department for patients and staff, it also is beneficial for maintaining the diagnostic equipment in the department”.

This project is scheduled for completion by early Spring.  We ask for your patience during this time.
