Middlesex Hospital Alliance Update on Visitor and Vaccination Policies

(Strathroy, ON) – As the province’s reopening plan moves ahead with the lifting of Ontario’s proof of vaccination requirement for indoor non-essential settings on March 1, 2022, Middlesex Hospital Alliance has no plans to change the hospital’s vaccine policy. Full vaccination against COVID-19 will remain a requirement for all visitors at this time.

We look forward to the continued progress and stable and/or downward trends in the numbers of COVID-19 cases in our communities, but we need to recognize that health care settings remain vulnerable to Covid 19 transmission.

Hospitals have a greater responsibility to monitor, assess and mitigate all risks to patients and staff. As such, our Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services (Newbury) sites will continue with current visitor policies beyond March 1st, 2022. Screening, distancing, hand hygiene, masking and appropriate use of other personal protective equipment remain in effect.

We are encouraged at this stage of the pandemic that as a community, we are moving safely into a better place in terms of managing risks of COVID-19 transmission. However, we continue to promote the importance of vaccinations in keeping our communities safe and better protected from serious or critical illness. If you are eligible for a booster dose of vaccine, please access one.

Middlesex Hospital Alliance will be continuing with its mandatory vaccination policy that requires all staff, physicians and volunteers to be fully vaccinated, which is currently interpreted to be two doses of vaccine. This will also apply for any new hires in our organization.

Under the hospital’s Family/Essential Care Partner Access policy, all visitors and care partners entering both the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services (Newbury) sites are required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. Our visitation policy continues to be reviewed and will be updated accordingly. Prior to visiting either of our sites, please refer to our visiting a patient section on the MHA website https://mhalliance.on.ca/patients-visitors/visiting-a-patient/

Throughout the pandemic, together with our regional partners we have worked hard to allow visitation for our patients experiencing life altering illness, while maintaining safety of our staff, patients and the public.

The Middlesex Hospital Alliance expresses gratitude for the community’s ongoing support throughout the pandemic, and encourages people to get their booster shot and continue following all public health protocols to stay safe, and protect against COVID-19.
