(Strathroy, ON) – The Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) has been diligent throughout the COVID‐19 pandemic to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, staff and physicians. Despite all these efforts we have identified the transmission of the COVID‐19 virus which has resulted in the declaration of an outbreak on our Acute Care Nursing Unit at our Four Counties site.
MHA is working in close conjunction with the Middlesex ‐ London Health Unit (MLHU) to ensure all appropriate measures are in place. Enhanced precautions, contact tracing, surveillance and testing are in progress. The MHA Infection Prevention and Control Specialist and MHA leadership teams are monitoring the situation closely. MLHU continues to provide guidance and direction.
Effective immediately ACNU is limited to new admissions and visitor restrictions are required with exceptions for palliative patients. This will be in place until appropriate cohorting can be maintained or the outbreak is declared over.
We appreciate everyone’s patience with our current situation and continued due diligence with screening, masking, and distancing. We encourage everyone to access COVID boosters if they are eligible.
MHA encourages all members of the community to continue following public health guidelines – including getting fully vaccinated including your booster, staying at home when sick, and adhering to infection prevention and control policies in high risk settings.
Despite experiencing lower community levels of COVID-19, COVID 19 transmission continues to threaten vulnerable persons in high risk settings.
MHA will NOT be changing their masking and personal protective equipment policies and procedures at this time.
These policies apply to all visitors, patients, and workers regardless of what area they work in. Anyone entering either hospital must continue to wear a medical-grade mask. As a vulnerable setting, these measures are in place to keep everyone safe.
“We cannot thank and recognize our staff enough for their commitment to exceptional care throughout this pandemic.” says Krista Shea Interim Vice President, Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Officer. “We appreciate the ongoing support from the Middlesex London Health Unit and our community”.
