Middlesex Hospital Alliance Maintains Mask Requirements In Emergency Department

(Strathroy, ON) – Effective June 20, 2023Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) has adjusted masking requirements in response to Public Health guidance and an assessment of the current health and safety risk.

Similar to other hospitals in the region, MHA has moved to masking based on a risk assessment and presence of symptoms. The exception is the emergency department where MHA has elected to maintain mandatory masking as the nature of emergency medicine involves inherent risk. Maintaining masking provides an additional layer of protection for patients, visitors and staff. Medical masks reduce the risk of infection from respiratory particles and are an effective tool to maintain staff resources and protect vulnerable persons.

The MHA continues to be leaders in providing safe and effective care. Requirements for masking at MHA are fluid and based on the presence of respiratory viruses in our communities and the risk of transmission. At this time, we anticipate further adjustment to mask requirements at MHA in the fall with the return of respiratory season.

Thank you for your continued support to keep each other, and the communities we serve safe.
