Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Neighbourly Pharmacy Enter into Retail Pharmacy Partnership

JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

(Strathroy, ON) – In late 2019, Middlesex Hospital Alliance began to explore the possible introduction of a retail outpatient pharmacy at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) site. In 2020, a request for proposal (RFP) was issued to determine whether any providers would be able to provide a diverse range of service offerings to meet the needs of our patients and staff.

We are thrilled to announce the RFP has been awarded to a division of Neighbourly Pharmacy (https://neighbourlypharmacy.ca/), Canada’s largest and fastest growing network of independent community pharmacies. The location of this retail outpatient pharmacy will be close to the main entrance of SMGH, and renovations are currently underway. It is anticipated that the retail pharmacy will open in April 2022.

This retail outpatient pharmacy partnership will help the MHA enhance the patient experience, by allowing the opportunity for the MHA and Neighbourly Pharmacy to collaborate on new programs and services for patients. The MHA and Neighborly Pharmacy will pay particular focus on opportunities to enhance the experience for those patients visiting our Ambulatory Clinics and following discharge from hospital. These new programs and services will support medication education for patients and improve the overall convenience and access of medications to patients and staff.

This exciting new partnership with Neighbourly Pharmacy will generate new collaboration opportunities with our existing and outstanding in-house pharmacy department at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. We are optimistic that retail pharmacy services at SMGH will greatly enhance the patient experience and be valuable to our staff and physicians as well.” said Julie McBrien, VP Clinical Services, Chief Nursing Officer

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner in care with a pharmacy at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. We operate several pharmacies in hospital settings and know what a difference working collaboratively in an inpatient care setting can make on improving health outcomes. We look forward to serving patients and staff at SMGH for many years to come.” said Chris Gardner, CEO Neighbourly Pharmacy.

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital will continue to operate its in-house pharmacy to meet the needs of inpatients at the hospital.
