Mental Health Emergency Care at the MHA

If you are experiencing a mental health and/or addiction-related emergency that requires immediate treatment, call 9-1-1 or visit your nearest emergency department (the MHA has emergency departments at both of its partner sites).

What will happen during your emergency visit:

  1. An emergency triage nurse will talk with you to understand the circumstances that brought you to the hospital
  1. The nurse may call crisis staff to complete an assessment, provide supports, and offer other resources to you, and
  1. You will be seen by an emergency physician as soon as possible to further assess your wellbeing and decide on the appropriate course of treatment.

Important note: Neither SMGH nor FCHS have inpatient mental health services so depending on the severity of your situation, you may be transferred to another larger hospital nearby.

Reminder: Items not allowed in hospital include alcohol, knives, glass, firearms, illicit drugs, and fire hazards.
