What JEDI-R Means at the MHA
At the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA), JEDI-R (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism) means creating a healthcare environment where everyone feels respected, safe, and supported—no matter who they are.
We are committed to addressing all forms of discrimination, including anti-racism, gender bias, and inequities experienced by Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. As a people-centred organization, we recognize the importance of understanding and valuing the experiences of every patient, family member, staff member, physician, and volunteer.
At the MHA, this means:
- Providing equitable, culturally safe care for all patients
- Creating an inclusive and respectful workplace
- Actively identifying and addressing barriers to care and access
- Listening to and learning from the diverse communities we serve
- Advancing our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, particularly in strengthening relationships with local Indigenous communities
JEDI-R in Action
The MHA is actively working to embed JEDI-R principles across the organization through meaningful initiatives and ongoing learning:

- Completed advanced JEDI-R training for all Senior Leaders, with mandatory training now in place for all staff
- Initiated the development of an organization-wide Anti-Racism Policy, with a focus on Indigenous Anti-Racism
- Advancing an inclusive, accessible, and patient-centred approach to collecting health equity data

- Developing a multi-year JEDI-R Action Plan to guide ongoing efforts

Land Acknowledgement
The Middlesex Hospital Alliance acknowledges that our two Hospital sites are on Indigenous land that has been inhabited by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. There are longstanding relationships of the three local First Nations groups of these lands and in Middlesex County. We wish to recognize the three First Nations communities with longstanding ties to this area: Chippewa of the Thames First Nation (Anishinaabe); Oneida Nation of the Thames (Haudenosaunee); and Munsee-Delaware Nation (Leni-Lunaape) and wish to show respect to these communities today. We acknowledge and thank all generations of Indigenous People across Turtle Island for their commitment, contributions, and protection of the land and its resources and acknowledge that this is sacred land upon which we are privileged to live and work.
