Enteric (Gastrointestinal) Outbreak Declared on ACNU at FCHS – Resolved February 10, 2026

An outbreak of gastroenteritis (cause currently unknown) has been declared on the Acute Care Nursing Unit (ACNU) at Four Counties Health Services (FCHS) as of February 4, 2026

Several patients have developed new symptoms of vomiting and/or diarrhea, with symptom onset beginning February 2, 2026

Measures currently in place include:

  • Additional precautions for all patients who are actively experiencing symptoms
  • Signage posted at the entrance to ACNU
  • Symptomatic patients remaining in their rooms unless medically required to leave
  • Ongoing notification of all new cases to Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
  • Enhanced environmental cleaning in accordance with outbreak protocols
  • Strict adherence to hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for staff and visitors

Patients with diarrhea are being placed on contact precautions, and patients with both diarrhea and vomiting are being placed on droplet and contact precautions

Visitors are asked to follow all posted instructions, including proper hand hygiene before and after visiting patients and wearing required PPE.

The Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) is working closely with the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) to ensure all appropriate measures are in place. The Infection Prevention and Control team, along with MHA leadership, continues to closely monitor the situation.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and diligence during this time. Thank you for helping to protect the health and safety of our patients, visitors, and staff.
