Honouring Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day

November 6, 2026 – On November 8, we recognize Indigenous Veterans Day, followed by Remembrance Day on November 11. These important days invite us to reflect on the courage, service and sacrifices of the people who have helped protect our country, our communities and the freedoms we value.

We honour the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Veterans who have served in Canada’s military throughout history and continue to serve today. We recognize their significant contributions, including the thousands who volunteered in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. We also acknowledge the discrimination and inequities many Indigenous Veterans experienced, both during their service and after returning home. Their stories deserve to be remembered, their contributions recognized and their sacrifices honoured.

On Remembrance Day, we pay tribute to all those who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in times of war, conflict and peacekeeping. We remember the lasting impact of military service on Veterans, their families and generations of Canadians.

As a healthcare organization, the Middlesex Hospital Alliance recognizes the important connection between remembrance, health and healing. Hospitals and healthcare teams have long played an important role in caring for those affected by conflict, supporting Veterans through illness and injury, and helping individuals and families navigate the physical and emotional impacts of service. Today, we remain committed to providing compassionate, respectful and equitable care to everyone in our communities.

In recognition of these important days, the flags at both the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services sites will be flown at half-mast from November 8 to 11, in honour of these brave men and women and their service and sacrifice.

To all Veterans, serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families, we extend our sincere gratitude.

We remember. We honour. We will not forget.

Lest we forget.
